Idea store, hackney wick, London (4th year in cooperation with the AA)
Description | phase I : Masterplan (urban planing project) - Analysis of problems and district potential (SWOT analysis - Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats) - Identifying missing structures and environments. - Developing a Master plan for the regeneration of the Ex-Olympic park and the surrounding quarters. Phase II : The local scale (architecture project) - A detailed layout of the areas previously identified as regeneration zone- The public bath-house and its context in the Hackney Wick district. -Designing an Idea Store and integrate it in an historic- urban context of the Hackney Wick district. One of the main targets of the project was to create a useful and dynamic connection between the Hackney Wick district and Marble green (north) and the districts surrounds it. Due to a poor legibility and lack of clear and noticeable existing passages... The fact that the highway makes a barrier for the area, brought us to the conclusion of the necessity in creating a bridge. Which will be visible and create a continues rout from Osborne Rd to the other side of the highway. The seven floor Idea store building is functioning as a connection element, Thanks to the pedestrian ramp was created at the perimeter of the building, passer-by can reach to the other side of the highway in an easy way. The high building is noticeable from far and act also as a point of reference for the whole area. That fact is reinforced by the noticeable elevator-room that moves at the facade of the building which brings the visitors from one ambient to another in the Idea Store and creating a welcoming and interesting movement in the facade. The different ambient includes: An exposition gallery and lobby hall at the ground floor Cafeteria-bar Bookshop Internet-point Library Studying space Career support space Meeting room Training kitchen Auditorium and restaurant on the top 2 floors with a great panoramic view. The bridge is an integral part of the building, in order to use the bridge there is no need to enter the building, thanks to the insertion of the ramp on its perimeter, creating a double facade with an high technology metal structure that on the upper floors also supports the horizontal terrace in the different floors. The integration with the existing Bath house (an historic building) was made at the ground floor through a glass gallery which located under the bridge and function as a transparent and delicate connection element between the two buildings. |
